We’re looking for a confident Buyer and Purchasing Coordinator to join our Purchasing team in Leeds. Core responsibilities will be to negotiate with suppliers of assigned products, whilst ensuring that products are purchased at the lowest cost and the best delivery terms.

Focusing on the Personal Care, Household and Industrial Care and Pharmaceutical industries, we work in partnership with a range of consumer goods manufacturers. From start-ups, to supermarkets and multinational brands, our ingredients are a fundamental part of your everyday routine.
This exciting new vacancy is based at our head office in central Leeds, however due to the recent global situation, the role will be very flexible, with working from home arrangements available.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Negotiate with suppliers of assigned products, to ensure that products are purchased at the lowest cost and the best delivery terms
- Order products as required from approved suppliers according to the appropriate work instruction
- Proactively manage slow moving stock
- To be responsible for the completion of purchase orders, including communication of status with other depts. and timely recommendation of action to avoid stock-out (e.g. alternative suppliers)
- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiating effectively with them as required
- Resolve all delivery incidents supporting the purchasing assistant.
- Carry out quarterly supplier appraisals for purchased suppliers to maximise delivery and quality performance
- Provide accurate ingredient pricing to Surfachem commercial teams
- Ensure new suppliers are fully approved using appropriate documentation
- Coordinate stock expiry spreadsheets and lead stock expiry meetings
- Project a professional, competent and efficient image of the Company and Department at all times
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Previous experience in supplier development
Desirable
- Previous experience within chemical purchasing
- Fully or part qualified Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS)
Skills & Knowledge
Essential
- Excellent negotiator with a ‘can-do’ attitude
- Exceptional written and verbal communication
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Able to effectively organise and manage multiple tasks and projects
Desirable
- Knowledge of the chemical industry
