Sun protection products are evolving in multiple ways, with continuous updates on health regulations, environmental impact of sunscreen filters, consumer behaviour and attitudes to product usage. Here at Surfachem we keep an eye on developments in sun-care science and keep our customers up to date with the best ways to add sun protection to your products.
In more recent times, UV filters for UV-A and B protection are being used in everyday skincare products as a way for consumers to gain continuous protection, whilst still providing the formulation sophistication of skincare. This is opposed to the oily and heavy feeling sun protection products often have. The reason being that UV filters are highly occlusive systems which need to be solubilised and stabilised within the formula.
The science behind SPF was something that we covered in detail in our article "Understanding the Science Behind Sun Care Products: Scattering and Absorbing"
Any innovative product has to consider the environmental impact. There are an increasing number of studies and discussions being conducted to assess just how UV filters are effecting aquatic systems . More definitive regulations are needed, however consumers will be increasingly aware of solutions to this problem by the ingredients selected for a formula and the brand messaging on pack. - IFSCC Debate: Reef Safe Sunscreens
Emerging in the market are hybrid products of skincare and suncare, with mutual added benefits for both categories. Popular skin health actives such as ceramides and hyaluronic acid are paired with UV filters to give a holistic approach to healthy skin ageing and longevity. New textures and finishes are emerging too; gels, serums, cushion creams, mattifying, sprays and dewy finishes give consumers multiple choices to fit sun protection into their desired facial skincare routine.
Surfachem have developed a range of exciting formulations that embrace this need for SPF protection.
