Over the last 40 years, Surfachem, a 2M Group company, has been delivering chemistry for a better life. In 1981, we started with a small office and warehouse in the North of England, primarily distributing surfactants. Fast forward to 2021, and we have evolved to become a leading speciality chemicals distributor. From our market expertise to our geographical presence, our growth story is a true attribute to our team.
In 2014, we secured a small laboratory space within the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre (BIC) within the University of Huddersfield. From then, we’ve invested in our technical capabilities to meet our customer’s needs across a range of industries.
Our laboratory is at the heart of our success - over the last year, our lab team have created over 700 formulations – again, a true representation of the dedication of our team. We are also proud to have been recognised for our innovative formulations and concepts via various innovation awards.

Last week was a key milestone within our growth journey. We are excited to share our brand-new, larger, formulation laboratory within the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre in Huddersfield. This larger facility will allow our team of experts to conduct extensive research and development, take on more projects, and support customers, both existing and new.
On 23rd September, we held an official opening event, where our CEO and Chairman, Mottie Kessler welcomed guests to not only view our new laboratory, but to also engage with formulation demonstrations within our Personal Care and Home Care laboratories.
