A biocidal product family (BPF) under the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) allows similar biocidal products to be grouped together for authorisation. This simplifies the process, saving time and reducing costs, while ensuring compliance.
A BPF consists of products that:
Imagine a company producing surface disinfectants:

These products share the same active ingredient (e.g., benzalkonium chloride) and similar risks, but their variations in colour, fragrance, and concentration do not affect safety or efficacy. They can be grouped into a single biocidal product family for authorisation.
